Pray about your Part
The idea of a financial goal like this makes it really easy to assume that our efforts are entirely centered around dollars and pennies. The truth is that if this whole effort becomes about money or buildings, we've already lost. Money can only buy stuff. Faith, on the other hand can MOVE MOUNTAINS! What we are asking every person who calls Journey Church home to do is not to "reach deep" or sacrifice things that we need. What we are asking is that each person would take these weeks to learn to ASK GOD what part you should play, make room in your life to LISTEN for God's leading and then simply OBEY. It's that simple: ASK, LISTEN and OBEY.
The hard part about that is that we're well acquainted with the idea of "saying a prayer," but we often struggle to learn to lean in and listen to God's leading. Well, that is exactly the part that the VISION DESSERTS play in this journey! It may sound on the surface like a "vision dessert" is about a vision for our church and the future facility, but it really is a vision for our lives. If we could learn in these weeks to ASK, LISTEN and OBEY, that kind of relationship with God applies to every other area of our lives (relationships, jobs, etc). Remember, if every dollar that is committed is given from a place of faith, it will ALWAYS be enough. If those same dollars come out of some kind of financial pressure or obligation, they will never be enough!
Please consider registering for a VISION DESSERT! Together, we will learn to lean in and listen to God's leading! You can register for a vision dessert below.
Communicate your Commitment
On Sunday, October 26th at each of our services, we will make room for every person who calls Journey Church home to communicate their 36-month commitment. You can find your copy of that commitment card inside the back cover of the vision workbook that you received (if you still need a vision book, please let me know at [email protected]). You can also see a digital version of the commitment card below (and you can even submit that commitment anytime right here.)
There are essentially three parts to the commitment:
First is the "Kick off gift" which is a one-time donation that is our first big step toward our effort. We are planning on those one-time contributions arriving on the weekend of November 9th.
The second part is the "36-month Commitment." The large block next to that title is the TOTAL of the amount that you're committing over the 36 months from November 2025 through November 2028. There is space below that to indicate how you intend to fulfill your commitment (i.e. weekly, monthly).
The third part is called "non-cash gifts." If you're considering liquidating something that you already own to help MAKE ROOM, it's very important that we talk about that before you sell your property. In many (if not most) cases, it's far more beneficial to you to gift the property directly to Journey rather than liquidate it yourself. For instance, if you were to sell some stock that you have and give the proceeds to Journey, you will wind up with needing to pay Capital Gains taxes when you file your income tax next year. But, if you were to move that stock directly to Journey and we are the ones who sell it, you would avoid those taxes (and still be able to write off 100% of the value). There are lost of other things that you might want to consider before you sell any kind of property (anything from land and houses, to logging rights or cattle) and even when you're thinking about selling off things like collectables, art, coins or stamps and even gold and silver - we can help you get the most benefit from your non-cash gift. If you're unsure, you can always reach out by email at [email protected]. When you're ready to commit a non-cash item, all you need to do is approximate the value and list the actual items below that box.
The last box is the "Total Commitment." This is where you add up the value of the first three boxes and put the total down.
One last, very important part: The commitment card in the back of the vision workbook is your copy. After you've chosen to ASK God what part you should play, made room to LISTEN and then OBEY in this commitment, we feel like it's vitally important that you have evidence of this part of your faith journey. If I could give you some advice, it would be to keep that vision workbook and your copy of your commitment with your important papers. Who knows what kind of legacy of generosity you could leave to your children and grandchildren behind you when they are going through those important papers down the road! Remember - this faith step will determine the impact of the next EIGHT DECADES at Journey Church!
If you'd like to fill out a digital commitment card (any time - even before Commitment Sunday), you can do so below.
